85. Al-Burooj

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ1

By the sky containing great stars

Wassamaaa'i zaatil burooj

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ2

And [by] the promised Day

Wal yawmil maw'ood

وَشَاهِدٍۢ وَمَشْهُودٍۢ3

And [by] the witness and what is witnessed,

Wa shaahidinw wa mashhood

قُتِلَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ4

Cursed were the companions of the trench

Qutila as haabul ukhdood

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ5

[Containing] the fire full of fuel,

Annaari zaatil waqood

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌۭ6

When they were sitting near it

Iz hum 'alaihaa qu'ood

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌۭ7

And they, to what they were doing against the believers, were witnesses.

Wa hum 'alaa maa yaf'aloona bilmu 'mineena shuhood

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ8

And they resented them not except because they believed in Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy,

Wa maa naqamoo minhum illaaa aiyu'minoo billaahil 'azeezil Hameed

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ شَهِيدٌ9

To whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. And Allah, over all things, is Witness.

Allazee lahoo mulkus samaawaati wal ard; wallaahu 'alaa kulli shai 'in Shaheed

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ10

Indeed, those who have tortured the believing men and believing women and then have not repented will have the punishment of Hell, and they will have the punishment of the Burning Fire.

Innal lazeena fatanul mu'mineena wal mu'minaati summa lam yatooboo falahum 'azaabu Jahannama wa lahum 'azaabul hareeq

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّٰتٌۭ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ11

Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great attainment.

Innal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum Jannaatun tajree min tahtihal anhaar; zaalikal fawzul kabeer

إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ12

Indeed, the vengeance of your Lord is severe.

Inna batsha Rabbika lashadeed

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ13

Indeed, it is He who originates [creation] and repeats.

Innahoo Huwa yubdi'u wa yu'eed

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ14

And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate,

Wa Huwal Ghafoorul Wadood

ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ15

Honorable Owner of the Throne,

Zul 'Arshil Majeed

فَعَّالٌۭ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ16

Effecter of what He intends.

Fa' 'aalul limaa yureed

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ17

Has there reached you the story of the soldiers -

Hal ataaka hadeesul junood

فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ18

[Those of] Pharaoh and Thamud?

Fir'awna wa Samood

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍۢ19

But they who disbelieve are in [persistent] denial,

Balil lazeena kafaroo fee takzeeb

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ20

While Allah encompasses them from behind.

Wallaahu minw waraaa'ihim muheet

بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌۭ مَّجِيدٌۭ21

But this is an honored Qur'an

Bal huwa Quraanum Majeed

فِى لَوْحٍۢ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ22

[Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate.
