15. Al-Hijr

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ الٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ وَقُرْءَانٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ1

Alif, Lam, Ra. These are the verses of the Book and a clear Qur'an.

Alif-Laaam-Raa; tilka Aayaatul Kitaabi wa Qur-aa-nim Mubeen

رُّبَمَا يَوَدُّ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لَوْ كَانُوا۟ مُسْلِمِينَ2

Perhaps those who disbelieve will wish that they had been Muslims.

Rubamaa yawaddul lazeena kafaroo law kaanoo muslimeen

ذَرْهُمْ يَأْكُلُوا۟ وَيَتَمَتَّعُوا۟ وَيُلْهِهِمُ ٱلْأَمَلُ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ3

Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know.

Zarhum yaakuloo wa tatamatta'oo wa yulhihimul amalu fasawfa ya'lamoon

وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا وَلَهَا كِتَابٌۭ مَّعْلُومٌۭ4

And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree.

Wa maaa ahlaknaa min qaryatin illaa wa lahaa kitaabum ma'loom

مَّا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَـْٔخِرُونَ5

No nation will precede its term, nor will they remain thereafter.

Maa tasbiqu min ummatin ajalahaa wa maa yastaakhiroon

وَقَالُوا۟ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِى نُزِّلَ عَلَيْهِ ٱلذِّكْرُ إِنَّكَ لَمَجْنُونٌۭ6

And they say, "O you upon whom the message has been sent down, indeed you are mad.

Wa qaaloo yaaa aiyuhal lazee nuzzila 'alaihiz Zikru innaka lamajnoon

لَّوْ مَا تَأْتِينَا بِٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ7

Why do you not bring us the angels, if you should be among the truthful?"

Law maa taateenaa bil malaaa'ikati in kunta minas saadiqeen

مَا نُنَزِّلُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَمَا كَانُوٓا۟ إِذًۭا مُّنظَرِينَ8

We do not send down the angels except with truth; and the disbelievers would not then be reprieved.

Maa nunazzilul malaaa'i kata illaa bilhaqqi wa maa kaanooo izam munzareen

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَٰفِظُونَ9

Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an and indeed, We will be its guardian.

Innaa Nahnu nazalnaz Zikra wa Innaa lahoo lahaa fizoon

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ فِى شِيَعِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ10

And We had certainly sent [messengers] before you, [O Muhammad], among the sects of the former peoples.

Wa laqad arsalnaa min qablika fee shiya'il awwaleen

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ11

And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him.

Wa maa yaateehim mir Rasoolin illaa kaanoo bihee yastahzi'oon

كَذَٰلِكَ نَسْلُكُهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ12

Thus do We insert denial into the hearts of the criminals.

kazaalika naslukuhoo fee quloobil mujrimeen

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ ۖ وَقَدْ خَلَتْ سُنَّةُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ13

They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples.

Laa yu'minoona bihee wa qad khalat sunnatul awwaleen

وَلَوْ فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَابًۭا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَظَلُّوا۟ فِيهِ يَعْرُجُونَ14

And [even] if We opened to them a gate from the heaven and they continued therein to ascend,

Wa law fatahnaa 'alaihim baabam minas samaaa'i fazaloo feehi ya'rujoon

لَقَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَا سُكِّرَتْ أَبْصَٰرُنَا بَلْ نَحْنُ قَوْمٌۭ مَّسْحُورُونَ15

They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic."

Laqaaloo innamaa sukkirat absaarunaa bal nahnu qawmum mashooroon

وَلَقَدْ جَعَلْنَا فِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ بُرُوجًۭا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ16

And We have placed within the heaven great stars and have beautified it for the observers.

Wa laqad ja'alnaa fissamaaa'i buroojanw wa zaiyannaahaa linnaazireen

وَحَفِظْنَٰهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْطَٰنٍۢ رَّجِيمٍ17

And We have protected it from every devil expelled [from the mercy of Allah]

Wa hafiznaahaa min kulli Shaitaanir rajeem

إِلَّا مَنِ ٱسْتَرَقَ ٱلسَّمْعَ فَأَتْبَعَهُۥ شِهَابٌۭ مُّبِينٌۭ18

Except one who steals a hearing and is pursued by a clear burning flame.

Illaa manis taraqas sam'a fa atba'ahoo shihaabum mubeen

وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مَّوْزُونٍۢ19

And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.

Wal arda madadnaahaa wa alqainaa feehaa rawaasiya wa ambatnaa feehaa min kulli shai'im mawzoon

وَجَعَلْنَا لَكُمْ فِيهَا مَعَٰيِشَ وَمَن لَّسْتُمْ لَهُۥ بِرَٰزِقِينَ20

And We have made for you therein means of living and [for] those for whom you are not providers.

Wa ja'alnaa lakum feehaa ma'aayisha wa mal lastum lahoo biraaziqeen

وَإِن مِّن شَىْءٍ إِلَّا عِندَنَا خَزَآئِنُهُۥ وَمَا نُنَزِّلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا بِقَدَرٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ21

And there is not a thing but that with Us are its depositories, and We do not send it down except according to a known measure.

Wa im min shai'in illaa 'indanaa khazaaa 'inuhoo wa maa nunazziluhooo illaa biqadarim ma'loom

وَأَرْسَلْنَا ٱلرِّيَٰحَ لَوَٰقِحَ فَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءًۭ فَأَسْقَيْنَٰكُمُوهُ وَمَآ أَنتُمْ لَهُۥ بِخَٰزِنِينَ22

And We have sent the fertilizing winds and sent down water from the sky and given you drink from it. And you are not its retainers.

Wa arsalnar riyaaha la waaqiha fa anzalnaa minas samaaa'i maaa'an fa asqai naakumoohu wa maaa antum lahoo bikhaazineen

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَنَحْنُ ٱلْوَٰرِثُونَ23

And indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and We are the Inheritor.

Wa innnaa la nahnu nuhyee wa numeetu wa nahnul waarisoon

وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَقْدِمِينَ مِنكُمْ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْنَا ٱلْمُسْتَـْٔخِرِينَ24

And We have already known the preceding [generations] among you, and We have already known the later [ones to come].

Wa la qad 'alimnal mustaqdimeena minkum wa laqad 'alimnal mustaakhireen

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌۭ25

And indeed, your Lord will gather them; indeed, He is Wise and Knowing.

Wa inna Rabbaka Huwa yahshuruhum; innahoo Hakeem 'Aleem

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ26

And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud.

Wa laqad khalaqnal insaana min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

وَٱلْجَآنَّ خَلَقْنَٰهُ مِن قَبْلُ مِن نَّارِ ٱلسَّمُومِ27

And the jinn We created before from scorching fire.

Waljaaanna khalaqnaahu min qablu min naaris samoom

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ إِنِّى خَٰلِقٌۢ بَشَرًۭا مِّن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ28

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud.

Wa iz qaala Rabbuka lilmalaaa' ikati innee khaaliqum basharam min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُۥ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِى فَقَعُوا۟ لَهُۥ سَٰجِدِينَ29

And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration."

Fa izaa sawwaituhoo wa nafakhtu feehi mir roohee faqa'oo lahoo saajideen

فَسَجَدَ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ30

So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely,

Fasajadal malaaa'ikatu kulluhum ajma'oon

إِلَّآ إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰٓ أَن يَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ31

Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated.

Illaaa ibleesa abaaa ai yakoona ma'as saajideen

قَالَ يَٰٓإِبْلِيسُ مَا لَكَ أَلَّا تَكُونَ مَعَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ32

[Allah] said, O Iblees, what is [the matter] with you that you are not with those who prostrate?"

Qaala yaaa Ibleesu maa laka allaa takoona ma'as saajideen

قَالَ لَمْ أَكُن لِّأَسْجُدَ لِبَشَرٍ خَلَقْتَهُۥ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍۢ مِّنْ حَمَإٍۢ مَّسْنُونٍۢ33

He said, "Never would I prostrate to a human whom You created out of clay from an altered black mud."

Qaala lam akul li asjuda libasharin khalaqtahoo min salsaalim min hama im masnoon

قَالَ فَٱخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌۭ34

[Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled.

Qaala fakhruj minhaa fa innaka rajeem

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ ٱللَّعْنَةَ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ35

And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense."

Wa inna 'alikal la'nata ilaa Yawmid Deen

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنظِرْنِىٓ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ36

He said, "My Lord, then reprieve me until the Day they are resurrected."

Qaala Rabbi fa anzirneee ilaa Yawmi yub'asoon

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنظَرِينَ37

[Allah] said, "So indeed, you are of those reprieved

Qaala fa innaka minal munzareen

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ ٱلْوَقْتِ ٱلْمَعْلُومِ38

Until the Day of the time well-known."

Ilaa Yawmil waqtil ma'loom

قَالَ رَبِّ بِمَآ أَغْوَيْتَنِى لَأُزَيِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ39

[Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all

Qaala Rabbi bimaaa aghwaitanee la uzayyinaana lahum fil ardi wa la ughwiyan nahum ajma'een

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ ٱلْمُخْلَصِينَ40

Except, among them, Your chosen servants."

Illaa 'ibaadaka minhumul mukhlaseen

قَالَ هَٰذَا صِرَٰطٌ عَلَىَّ مُسْتَقِيمٌ41

[Allah] said, "This is a path [of return] to Me [that is] straight.

Qaala haaza Siraatun 'alaiya Mustaqeem

إِنَّ عِبَادِى لَيْسَ لَكَ عَلَيْهِمْ سُلْطَٰنٌ إِلَّا مَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْغَاوِينَ42

Indeed, My servants - no authority will you have over them, except those who follow you of the deviators.

Inna 'ibaadee laisa laka 'alaihim sultaanun illaa manittaba'aka minal ghaaween

وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمَوْعِدُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ43

And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all.

Wa inna jahannama lamaw'iduhum ajma'een

لَهَا سَبْعَةُ أَبْوَٰبٍۢ لِّكُلِّ بَابٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ جُزْءٌۭ مَّقْسُومٌ44

It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated."

Lahaa sab'atu abwaab; likulli baabim minhum juz'um maqsoom

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ وَعُيُونٍ45

Indeed, the righteous will be within gardens and springs.

Innal muttaqeena fee Jannaatinw wa 'uyoon

ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَٰمٍ ءَامِنِينَ46

[Having been told], "Enter it in peace, safe [and secure]."

Udkhuloohaa bisalaamin aamineen

وَنَزَعْنَا مَا فِى صُدُورِهِم مِّنْ غِلٍّ إِخْوَٰنًا عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍۢ مُّتَقَٰبِلِينَ47

And We will remove whatever is in their breasts of resentment, [so they will be] brothers, on thrones facing each other.

Wa naza'naa ma fee sudoorihim min ghillin ikhwaanan 'alaa sururim mutaqaabileen

لَا يَمَسُّهُمْ فِيهَا نَصَبٌۭ وَمَا هُم مِّنْهَا بِمُخْرَجِينَ48

No fatigue will touch them therein, nor from it will they [ever] be removed.

Laa yamas suhum feehaa nasabunw wa maa hum minhaa bimukhrajeen

۞ نَبِّئْ عِبَادِىٓ أَنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ49

[O Muhammad], inform My servants that it is I who am the Forgiving, the Merciful.

Nabbi' 'ibaadeee annneee anal Ghafoorur Raheem

وَأَنَّ عَذَابِى هُوَ ٱلْعَذَابُ ٱلْأَلِيمُ50

And that it is My punishment which is the painful punishment.

Wa anna 'azaabee uwal 'azaabul aleem

وَنَبِّئْهُمْ عَن ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ51

And inform them about the guests of Abraham,

Wa nabbi'hum 'an daifi Ibraaheem

إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَٰمًۭا قَالَ إِنَّا مِنكُمْ وَجِلُونَ52

When they entered upon him and said, "Peace." [Abraham] said, "Indeed, we are fearful of you."

Iz dakhaloo 'alaihi faqaaloo salaaman qaala innaa minkum wajiloon

قَالُوا۟ لَا تَوْجَلْ إِنَّا نُبَشِّرُكَ بِغُلَٰمٍ عَلِيمٍۢ53

[The angels] said, "Fear not. Indeed, we give you good tidings of a learned boy."

Qaaloo la tawjal innaa nubashshiruka bighulaamin 'aleem

قَالَ أَبَشَّرْتُمُونِى عَلَىٰٓ أَن مَّسَّنِىَ ٱلْكِبَرُ فَبِمَ تُبَشِّرُونَ54

He said, "Have you given me good tidings although old age has come upon me? Then of what [wonder] do you inform?"

Qaala abashshartumoonee 'alaaa am massaniyal kibaru fabima tubashshiroon

قَالُوا۟ بَشَّرْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ فَلَا تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْقَٰنِطِينَ55

They said, "We have given you good tidings in truth, so do not be of the despairing."

Qaaloo bashsharnaaka bilhaqqi falaa takum minal qaaniteen

قَالَ وَمَن يَقْنَطُ مِن رَّحْمَةِ رَبِّهِۦٓ إِلَّا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ56

He said, "And who despairs of the mercy of his Lord except for those astray?"

Qaala wa mai yaqnatu mir rahmati Rabbiheee illad daaaloon

قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ57

[Abraham] said, "Then what is your business [here], O messengers?"

Qaala famaa khatbukum aiyuhal mursaloon

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍۢ مُّجْرِمِينَ58

They said, "Indeed, we have been sent to a people of criminals,

Qaaloo innaaa ursilnaaa ilaa qawmim mujrimeen

إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍ إِنَّا لَمُنَجُّوهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ59

Except the family of Lot; indeed, we will save them all

Illaaa Aala Loot; innaa lamunajjoohum ajma'een

إِلَّا ٱمْرَأَتَهُۥ قَدَّرْنَآ ۙ إِنَّهَا لَمِنَ ٱلْغَٰبِرِينَ60

Except his wife." Allah decreed that she is of those who remain behind.

Illam ra atahoo qaddarnaaa innahaa laminal ghaabireen

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ءَالَ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ61

And when the messengers came to the family of Lot,

Falamma jaaa'a Aala Lootinil mursaloon

قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌۭ مُّنكَرُونَ62

He said, "Indeed, you are people unknown."

Qaala innakum qawmum munkaroon

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ جِئْنَٰكَ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ فِيهِ يَمْتَرُونَ63

They said, "But we have come to you with that about which they were disputing,

Qaaloo bal ji'naaka bimaa kaanoo feehi yamtaroon

وَأَتَيْنَٰكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّا لَصَٰدِقُونَ64

And we have come to you with truth, and indeed, we are truthful.

Wa atainaaka bilhaqqi wa innaa lasaadiqoon

فَأَسْرِ بِأَهْلِكَ بِقِطْعٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ وَٱتَّبِعْ أَدْبَٰرَهُمْ وَلَا يَلْتَفِتْ مِنكُمْ أَحَدٌۭ وَٱمْضُوا۟ حَيْثُ تُؤْمَرُونَ65

So set out with your family during a portion of the night and follow behind them and let not anyone among you look back and continue on to where you are commanded."

Fa asri bi ahlika biqit'im minal laili wattabi' adbaarahum wa laa yaltafit minkum ahadunw wamdoo haisu tu'maroon

وَقَضَيْنَآ إِلَيْهِ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْأَمْرَ أَنَّ دَابِرَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ مَقْطُوعٌۭ مُّصْبِحِينَ66

And We conveyed to him [the decree] of that matter: that those [sinners] would be eliminated by early morning.

Wa qadainaaa ilaihi zaalikal amra anna daabira haaa'ulaaa'i maqtoo'um musbiheen

وَجَآءَ أَهْلُ ٱلْمَدِينَةِ يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ67

And the people of the city came rejoicing.

Wa jaaa'a ahlul madeenati yastabshiroon

قَالَ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ ضَيْفِى فَلَا تَفْضَحُونِ68

[Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me.

Qaala inna haaa'ulaaa'i daifee falaa tafdahoon

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَلَا تُخْزُونِ69

And fear Allah and do not disgrace me."

Wattaqul laaha wa laa tukhzoon

قَالُوٓا۟ أَوَلَمْ نَنْهَكَ عَنِ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ70

They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?"

Qaalooo awalam nanhaka 'anil 'aalameen

قَالَ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ بَنَاتِىٓ إِن كُنتُمْ فَٰعِلِينَ71

[Lot] said, "These are my daughters - if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

Qaala haaa'ulaaa'i banaateee in kuntum faa'ileen

لَعَمْرُكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَفِى سَكْرَتِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ72

By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

La'amruka innahum lafee sakratihim ya'mahoon

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُشْرِقِينَ73

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

Fa akhazat humus saihatu mushriqeen

فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةًۭ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ74

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

Faja'alnaa 'aaliyahaa saafilahaa wa amtamaa 'alaihim hijaaratam min sjijjeel

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَٰتٍۢ لِّلْمُتَوَسِّمِينَ75

Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

Inna fee zaalika la Aayaatil lilmutawassimeen

وَإِنَّهَا لَبِسَبِيلٍۢ مُّقِيمٍ76

And indeed, those cities are [situated] on an established road.

Wa innahaa labi sabeelim muqeem

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَءَايَةًۭ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِينَ77

Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

Inna fee zaalika la Aayatal lilmu'mineen

وَإِن كَانَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ لَظَٰلِمِينَ78

And the companions of the thicket were [also] wrongdoers.

Wa in kaana Ashaabul Aikati lazaalimeen

فَٱنتَقَمْنَا مِنْهُمْ وَإِنَّهُمَا لَبِإِمَامٍۢ مُّبِينٍۢ79

So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

Fantaqamnaa minhum wa innahumaa labi imaamim mubeen

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ أَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْحِجْرِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ80

And certainly did the companions of Thamud deny the messengers.

Wa laqad kazzaba ashaabul Hijril mursaleen

وَءَاتَيْنَٰهُمْ ءَايَٰتِنَا فَكَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ81

And We gave them Our signs, but from them they were turning away.

Wa aatainaahum Aayaatinaa fakaanoo 'anhaa mu'rideen

وَكَانُوا۟ يَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا ءَامِنِينَ82

And they used to carve from the mountains, houses, feeling secure.

Wa kaanoo yanhitoona minal jibaali buyootan aamineen

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّيْحَةُ مُصْبِحِينَ83

But the shriek seized them at early morning.

Fa akhazat humus saihatu musbiheen

فَمَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ84

So nothing availed them [from] what they used to earn.

Famaaa aghnaa 'anhum maa kaanoo yaksiboon

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ ۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَءَاتِيَةٌۭ ۖ فَٱصْفَحِ ٱلصَّفْحَ ٱلْجَمِيلَ85

And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness.

Wa maa khalaqnas samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaaa illaa bilhaqq; wa innas Saa'ata la aatiyatun fasfahis safhal jameel

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ ٱلْخَلَّٰقُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ86

Indeed, your Lord - He is the Knowing Creator.

Inna Rabbaka Huwal khallaaqul 'aleem

وَلَقَدْ ءَاتَيْنَٰكَ سَبْعًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمَثَانِى وَٱلْقُرْءَانَ ٱلْعَظِيمَ87

And We have certainly given you, [O Muhammad], seven of the often repeated [verses] and the great Qur'an.

Wa laqad aatainaaka sab'am mnal masaanee wal Qur-aanal 'azeem

لَا تَمُدَّنَّ عَيْنَيْكَ إِلَىٰ مَا مَتَّعْنَا بِهِۦٓ أَزْوَٰجًۭا مِّنْهُمْ وَلَا تَحْزَنْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ88

Do not extend your eyes toward that by which We have given enjoyment to [certain] categories of the disbelievers, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing to the believers

Laa tamuddanna 'ainaika ilaa maa matta 'naa biheee azwaajam minhum wa laa tahzan 'alaihim wakhfid janaahaka lilmu 'mineen

وَقُلْ إِنِّىٓ أَنَا ٱلنَّذِيرُ ٱلْمُبِينُ89

And say, "Indeed, I am the clear warner" -

Wa qul inneee anan nazeerul mubeen

كَمَآ أَنزَلْنَا عَلَى ٱلْمُقْتَسِمِينَ90

Just as We had revealed [scriptures] to the separators

Kamaaa anzalnaa 'alal muqtasimeen

ٱلَّذِينَ جَعَلُوا۟ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ عِضِينَ91

Who have made the Qur'an into portions.

Allazeena ja'alul Quraana'ideen

فَوَرَبِّكَ لَنَسْـَٔلَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ92

So by your Lord, We will surely question them all

Fawa Rabbika lanas'a lannahum ajma'een

عَمَّا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ93

About what they used to do.

'Ammaa kaanoo ya'maloon

فَٱصْدَعْ بِمَا تُؤْمَرُ وَأَعْرِضْ عَنِ ٱلْمُشْرِكِينَ94

Then declare what you are commanded and turn away from the polytheists.

Fasda' bimaa tu'maru wa a'rid anil mushrikeen

إِنَّا كَفَيْنَٰكَ ٱلْمُسْتَهْزِءِينَ95

Indeed, We are sufficient for you against the mockers

Innaa kafainaakal mustahzi'een

ٱلَّذِينَ يَجْعَلُونَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۚ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ96

Who make [equal] with Allah another deity. But they are going to know.

Allazeena yaj'aloona ma'al laahi ilaahan aakhar; fasawfa ya'lamoon

وَلَقَدْ نَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ يَضِيقُ صَدْرُكَ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ97

And We already know that your breast is constrained by what they say.

Wa laqad na'lamu annak yadeequ sadruka bimaa yaqooloon

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَكُن مِّنَ ٱلسَّٰجِدِينَ98

So exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord and be of those who prostrate [to Him].

Fasbbih bihamdi Rabbika wa kum minas saajideen

وَٱعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّىٰ يَأْتِيَكَ ٱلْيَقِينُ99

And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (death).

Wa'bud Rabbaka hattaa yaatiyakal yaqeen
